Celebrating Black History Month with the City of Pasadena
Black History Month is a time to honor and celebrate the extraordinary achievements of Black individuals across generations whose courage, leadership, and resilience have shaped our nation. From Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose civil rights advocacy transformed American history, to Harriet Tubman, whose bravery on the Underground Railroad became a lasting symbol of freedom and hope, these stories continue to inspire. Leaders such as Barack Obama, the first African American President of the United States, and Michelle Obama, a powerful advocate for education and empowerment, represent the progress built upon the sacrifices of those who came before them. Trailblazers like Shirley Chisholm and icons such as Rosa Parks and Muhammad Ali remind us that Black history is rich with impact, influence, and a legacy that continues to guide future generations.
Pasadena Federal Credit Union is proud to celebrate Black History Month alongside the City of Pasadena and our vibrant community. On Saturday, February 21, 2026, the City will host its annual Black History Parade & Festival, a cherished cultural event that honors the legacy, achievements, and contributions of African Americans throughout history and in the Pasadena community today.
This family-friendly event begins with a parade through Old Pasadena and Old Town, featuring marching bands, community groups, cultural performers, and local leaders. The festivities continue with the Black History Festival at Central Park, where attendees can enjoy live entertainment, food vendors, educational activities, youth performances, and booths from local organizations.
As part of this year’s celebration, PFCU has proudly donated in support of the Annual Black History Pancake Breakfast hosted by the San Gabriel Valley Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, the Phoenix Society of Pasadena representing Black Firefighters, and the Pasadena Black Municipal Employees’ Association. With an anticipated attendance of approximately 200 guests, the breakfast brings together City employees, community leaders, and residents in recognition of history and progress. Our sponsorship helps cover the essential costs of hosting an event of this magnitude, and we are honored to contribute to a gathering that celebrates leadership, resilience, and community pride.
The Black History Parade & Festival brings the community together to recognize cultural heritage, inspire learning, and celebrate diversity through storytelling, music, and creative expression. Events like these reflect the heart of Pasadena — a city that values inclusion, history, and connection.
At PFCU, we believe that supporting community events that honor history and promote cultural awareness aligns with our mission to educate, engage, and empower. Black History Month provides an important opportunity to celebrate the voices and stories that have shaped our neighborhoods, institutions, and shared future.
We are honored to stand with the City of Pasadena in commemorating this special month and look forward to continuing our support of initiatives that uplift and unite our community.
